NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Three Ladyjacks earned spots on the Dave Campbell Texas All-Texas Teams, per today's release. Junior guard Stephanie Visscher (All-Texas First Team and Defensive Team) made her second consecutive appearance on this list, with junior forward Aiyana Johnson (All-Texas Third Team) and sophomore guard Zya Nugent (All-Texas Honorable Mention) grabbing accolades as well. The trio held the top three spots in the scoring department for the Ladyjacks this season, and were All-Southland Conference selections.
Stephanie Visscher (Jr., G, Lulea, Sweden)
Visscher completed a remarkable season for the Ladyjacks, as she was the only player in the country to shoot 60/50/90 (.603 FG, .525 3-PT., .926 FT) during regular season conference games. The crafty guard averaged 12.3 points per game, 4.4 rebounds per game, 3.1 assists per game and 2.4 steals per game this season, complemented by 19 double-digit scoring games and a 1.6 A/TO ratio. On the defensive end, Visscher snagged 66 steals and 30 blocks, and ended up tying for 19th across all NCAA Division I in total steals. Visscher tabbed Southland Conference First Team and Defensive Team Honors this season, wrapping up her junior year on a strong note with a double-double performance (14 points and 12 rebounds) in the NCAA Tournament First Round against Georgia Tech.
Aiyana Johnson (Jr., F/C, Lee's Summit, Missouri)
Johnson was a significant factor in the Ladyjacks' consistent success this year, averaging 9.6ppg/6.3rpg/2.5 apg/2.0 bpg/1.0 spg. Johnson blocked 53 shots in the span of 27 games, which was good for No.1 in the Southland Conference and No. 24 in NCAA Division I. The junior's presence was known during postseason play, as she was named the Southland Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player after a massive performance in the championship game against rival Sam Houston (16 points, eight rebounds) and her 54.4 FG percentage ranked 4th in the SLC. Johnson was named All-Southland Conference Second Team, and joined Visscher on the Defensive Team.
Zya Nugent (So., G, Denison, Texas)
It sure was a breakout year for Nugent, where she finished second on the team in scoring (12.3ppg) and came in clutch during the Southland Conference Tournament, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Nugent scored a career-high 26 points against NCAA Tournament team VCU in November, tying with Visscher in double-figure scoring games with 19 total. Nugent compiled 41 steals across all games, good for third on the team. Her most notable shot of the season as of late was giving SFA a six point lead in the SLC Tournament Semifinals against Central Arkansas, knocking down a trey from the top of the key.
