"We are student-athletes who love, respect and are proud of SFA. We represent our beloved school and want SFA to be proud of us. Unfortunately, there are those among us that have experienced hate, racism and discrimination. We can't escape these issues just because we are student-athletes.
Our message on Saturday was about more than football. It was about an opportunity to begin real conversations to help bring meaningful change. Our message was, and is simply about equality and unity. It's not about politics, the right, the left or any specific group; and it certainly wasn't an action to disrespect our school, community or country. It was simply about our desire for all of us to be better.
In asking for others to be better, we too, are making strides to be better. We are fully aware that our actions may not have been popular with some, but we stand committed to be ready and available to engage all groups, opinions and ideals. This is about unity and equality for all of us."
