NEW ORLEANS, La. – A total of five individuals as well as the women's track and field team from SFA were recognized as part of the U.S Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Teams this week, per a release from the national office. Three Lumberjacks (Cord Neal, Chad Horstmann and Drake Murphy) joined Ladyjacks Kaylee Bizzell and Nastassja Campbell as the individual honorees, while the women's team brought home academic honors as a team, thanks to a combined 3.1 GPA.
For Bizzell and Horstmann, the honor is their second in as many seasons, as both qualified for the award last season as well. Overall, the group of honorees had a wealth of success this season for SFA Track and Field, as Neal, Murphy and Campbell were each honored as Southland Conference champions in their respective events, and all three advanced to the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Sacramento, with Campbell advancing on to earn NCAA Second Team All-American honors. Bizzell and Horstmann were both conference scorers in the pole vault this season for SFA, with Bizzell's second and third place finishes at the two Southland Conference meets helping the Ladyjacks bring home the team title on both occasions.
Fresh off a season in which they won both the indoor and outdoor conference titles, the Ladyjacks put a bow on the year with the team academic award as well, boasting an overall grade point average of 3.1.
