
SFA Takes Home Sixth-Straight Southland Women's All-Sports Trophy

SFA finishes second in Southland Commissioner's Cup Standings for second-straight year
FRISCO, Texas - In an announcement made Tuesday afternoon by the Southland Conference, SFA has laid claim to its sixth-straight Southland Women's All-Sports award.The news was made official in a press release issued by the league office which also revealed the winners of the Southland Conference Commissioner's Cup and Men's All-Sports award.
Sam Houston State (159.5 points) claimed both the Commissioner's Cup and the Men's All-Sports award (79.5 points), edging out SFA (148.5 points) by 11 points for the former. It's SFA's second consecutive runner-up finish in the final edition of the Commissioner's Cup standings.
By receiving a Southland Conference regular season titles from volleyball, women's indoor track & field and women's outdoor track & field as well as runner-up finish from women's basketball, SFA accumulated a large portion of its 91.5 points to take home the Women's All-Sports award. That point total helped SFA edge out Central Arkansas (80.5 points) and Sam Houston State (80 points) to obtain its seventh Women's All-Sports award overall.
Of particular note was SFA's volleyball team who finished the year with a 32-3 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006. During 2018, the Ladyjacks reeled off a program-record and nation-leading 29 consecutive wins which included a perfect 16-0 run through Southland Conference play.
In the race for the Men's All-Sports award, SFA accumulated 57 points to finish sixth behind Sam Houston State, Abilene Christian (74.5), Lamar (73), Incarnate Word (68.5) and Southeastern Louisiana (58.5).
The Commissioner's Cup and All-Sports Awards will be presented at the Southland Conference Honors Dinner tonight at the Westin Stonebriar Hotel in Frisco, Texas.
The Men's and Women's All-Sports trophies are awarded annually for men's and women's competition based on a 13-point system for all conference sports, with the Commissioner's Cup being awarded to the program with the most combined all-sports points.
Points are awarded from 13 to 1 according to place of finish in final conference standings in sports with regular seasons, or placement in conference championships for sports without regular seasons. If teams are tied in standings or placement, points for the given spots are distributed evenly. Points are awarded regardless of the number of teams that sponsor a given sport.
