Arthurs earns weekly honor for second time in career
Full Southland Conference Player of the Week Release
FRISCO, Texas -- Junior defender Carli Arthurs was named the Southland Defensive Player of the Week for her performance last Friday per a release from the conference office on Tuesday. Arthurs, a native of Lewisville, Texas, anchored the SFA women's soccer team defense in a 5-0 shutout win over Sam Houston State on Friday, a drubbing that helped the Ladyjacks qualify for the 2018 Southland Conference Tournament. Carli played all 90 minutes of the rivalry match, helping the SFA backline hold the Bearkats to just four shots in the match, and also chipped in SFA's fifth goal with a strike in the 61st minute.
In her junior season at SFA, Arthurs has been a commanding and consistent presence on the SFA defense, starting all 16 games and playing all but 37 of 1533 possible minutes this season, including 13 complete games. She has contributed one goal and one assist on the season her defender spot, but has been also chipped in 27 shots this season and contributed numerous free kick services for SFA as well.
With the regular season concluded, Arthurs and the Ladyjacks will enter the conference tournament as the seventh seed, a position never held by the Ladyjacks due to the tournament field being expanded to eight teams just last season. SFA owns a career tournament record of 13-12-5 (.517) and three tournament titles (2003, 2007, 2012), and will look to make waves in this season's tournament.
