FRISCO, Texas – Three Lumberjacks garnered 2016-17 Southland Conference Men’s Golf All-Conference honors, announced today by the league office.
Senior Major Monzingo headlines the group, earning first team All-SLC recognition, with junior Blake Stock being named the conference’s Newcomer of the Year and a third selection with sophomore Angelo Leyvani also notching third team honors.
It is the first All-SLC honors in each of their respective careers, adding to the Lumberjacks’ all-time total. Since joining the Southland in 1987-88, SFA has tallied 45 All-SLC honors, including 17 first team selections. Monzingo joins former teammates Luke Sheehan (2016) and Mitchell McLeroy (2011-13) as a first team all-conference honoree with Stock becoming the first Lumberjack to earn Newcomer of the Year recognition since Dustin Byrd in 2004.

Leyvani picked up third team honors after being named an honorable mention selection in 2016, ranking second on the team with a 73.87 scoring average, one of only two ‘Jacks to play in all 31 rounds. The San Antonio native was second on the team with 10 par-or-better rounds, including a season-low 69, while finishing in the top-10 on three occasions, marked by his runner-up finish at the Jim West Intercollegiate.
