FRISCO, Texas – For the third time in the first four weeks of the season, a Stephen F. Austin volleyball player has earned Southland Conference Player of the Week status. This time, the honor was delivered to junior outside hitter Abby McIntyre who secured Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors following her high-powered offensive performances in a 3-0 week for the Ladyjacks.
Hailing from Richmond, Texas, McIntyre picked up the first weekly Southland Conference accolade of her career by making use of her accurate attacking ways on offense. Through nine sets, the junior averaged 3.67 kills per set and finished with an attack percentage of .444 by committing a scant five errors on 63 swings.
In the Ladyjacks’ Southland Conference opener against Incarnate Word on Thursday evening, McIntyre was the featured offensive performer on a diverse SFA attack as she struck for a match-best 11 kills on the strength of a .429 hitting percentage. The following evening against non-conference adversary North Texas, McIntyre one-upped her outing from the previous tilt by flooring a match-high 13 winners while swinging at a clip of .529 in SFA’s 3-0 victory.
After registering nine more kills in a 3-0 triumph over Little Rock on Saturday afternoon, McIntyre was one of three Ladyjacks chosen to occupy a spot on the Holiday Inn Express SFA Volleyball Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Thanks in part to McIntyre, the Ladyjacks upped their record to 8-5 and are riding a season-best three-match winning streak headed into a two-match week. Wednesday evening will mark both the midpoint of SFA’s seven-match streak of home matches and the first time Baylor steps foot into Shelton Gym in 22 years. SFA’s second tilt with a Big 12 opponent this season will begin at 6:30 p.m.
