Junior Luke Sheehan shot the low round of the day for the Lumberjacks, posting a 3-over 75 and sits tied for 27th among the individual leaders. He holds a two-stroke edge on senior Blake Pugh, who fired a 5-over 77 and is tied for 44th overall.
Sophomore Baxter Ward was the third SFA golfer to shoot sub-80 on the day, carding a 6-over 78. Junior transfer Nathan Weant notched an 8-over 80 while senior Bradley Phelps finished with a 10-over 82 to round out the Lumberjack scorecard.
SFA holds an eight shot lead over 13th-place Towson (30-over 318) and is 11 shots better than 14th-place Navy (32-over 320) through round one. The 'Jacks trail 11th-place Francis Marion (21-over 309) by one shot while sitting two strokes back of 10th-place UT-Arlington (20-over 308).
South Florida had taken a commanding lead through the first 18 holes, carding a 6-under 282 and leads second-place College of Charleston (3-over 291) by nine shots. Duke and Kentucky (4-over 292) are currently tied for third with Georgia Southern (7-over 295) rounding out the top-five.
SFA's second round gets underway at 11:10 a.m. CT as the Lumberjacks will team up with UT-Arlington and Francis Marion over the second 18 holes. Phelps will be the first Lumberjack to tee off, leading up to Sheehan's tee time at 11:50 a.m. CT.
