NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team, after a 0-0 double overtime draw against LSU on Monday, will head back to the state of Louisiana for a match at Louisiana - Monroe set for 4 p.m. on Friday. Following the afternoon affair, SFA will return to Nacogdoches for its second game of the season at the SFA Soccer Field, hosting Southern University at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
"I am looking forward to two great games this weekend," head coach Wally Crittenden said. "Both of these teams this weekend have the potential to cause problems depending on how we come out. Louisiana-Monroe has had a good start to the season so far and has had some close games with fellow Southland Conference schools. It is their home opener on Friday and I am sure they will be ready to play.
"Southern is coming to town on Sunday and I know they will be motivated to compete as well. Sunday is our first home game since our opener against Oregon State, so I trust our kids will be ready to grind on what I am sure will be a hot Texas afternoon.
"Ultimately, from here on out, it is about us. It is about our focus and our execution that will determine the outcome. If we pay attention to detail and play fast and on the edge, we will have a great chance to win the game. If we come out flat and don't represent ourselves and our process, then it will be very tough against the quality teams remaining on our regular season schedule. This group has proven to be very consistent so far through our first five games and I expect that to continue with the high character and leadership we have on this team."
NOTES:
• SFA vs. ULM - SFA and the Warhawks will be meeting for the 13th time on the pitch and first since the 2005 season when the two teams take the field on Friday afternoon. The Ladyjacks hold a 7-3-2 all-time edge over ULM, having won five of the last seven meetings (5-1-1). SFA triumphed 3-0 over the Warhawks in their last meeting in 2005. The last win for ULM over the Ladyjacks came one season prior in a 2-1 victory in 2004. SFA holds a 3-2 all-time edge when visiting the Warharks..
• Scouting ULM - The Warhawks enter Friday's match with a 4-2 mark on the season, having played all six matches on the road with three coming against members of the Southland Conference. Junior midfield Karlea Fehr leads the Warhawks with 12 points, on four goals and four assists, through six matches, having made five starts. Fehr is followed closely by sophomore forward Jenna Pillon, who has 10 points on four goals and two assists.
• SFA vs. SU - SFA and the Jaguars will be meeting for the first time when the two teams take the field on Sunday afternoon.
• Scouting SU - The Jaguars enter the weekend with a 0-5 mark on the season, having scored just one goal on the season. SU, still searching for its first win of the season, was shutout in its first three matches, falling to Texas - Pan American (2-0), Arkansas - Little Rock (6-0) and Louisiana - Monroe (5-0), before scoring its first goal of the season in a 2-1 loss against Louisiana Tech. The Jaguars most recently dropped a 7-0 decision to South Alabama on September 7th.
• Promotions vs. SU (Dog's Day Out) - Fans are encouraged to bring their dogs to the SFA Soccer Field and support the Ladyjacks for "Dog's Day Out" on Sunday. • Looking Ahead - Following Sunday's tilt with SU, the Ladyjacks will open Southland Conference play at Northwestern State on Sunday, Sept. 21, in a 1 p.m. scheduled match at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex.
• Crittenden On Last Time Out (at LSU) - "What a night. Our kids came to play and so did LSU. There is something special about being prepared and able to execute against a team who is also well prepared. Anyone fortunate enough to watch this game, witnessed two teams leaving everything they had on the field. Sure there are things we can do better. There always are, but there was a lot of things we did that were really good. With the competitive spirit this team continues to show against the best competition, home or away, there is not a more battle-tested team in the conference. Now, we need to heal, regroup, and rededicate ourselves to two more games this weekend that I am sure will demand our best efforts. I trust this team and I am confident they will be ready to play."
