NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Three different meets are on the slate for the Stephen F. Austin track and field teams this week as the Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks will spread across the state to take on some strong talent.
A small group of SFA’s top athletes is headed to the 87th Texas Relays in Austin and set for action on Thursday. Another group is headed to the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State, and more ‘Jacks will compete at the Rice Bayou Classic.
SFA will send its men’s 4x100 4x400 relays to the Texas Relays along with its men’s pole vaulters and top throwers. The men’s 4x400 team that just posted the fastest time in the nation so far this season last week will be in action in Austin, including Southland Conference Athlete of the Week Josh Taylor.
Javelin thrower Madison Johnston will look to build on her school-record performance last week that earned her SLC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week at the Texas Relays as well. La’Tricia Griffin and Jessica Spelling also will be throwing for SFA in Austin.
The trio of Colton Ross, Cameron Meyer and Daven Murphree will compete in the pole vault for the men with Ross taking on the nation’s top collegiate vaulters in a special invitational competition. Meyer and Murphree will be in other collegiate pole vault competitions.
SFA’s women’s 4x100 and 4x400 relays will join the men at the Texas Relays.
Texas Relays is one of the largest meets in the country during the outdoor season with hundreds of high schools competing and bringing many of the top collegiate teams to compete as well as professionals for special invitationals.
The Bobcat Invitational also starts on Thursday with a multi-events competition and will run through Saturday.
The Victor Lopez Bayou Classic at Rice will begin with high school competition on Thursday with colleges beginning on Friday and going through Saturday. The Lopez Classic will be a team scored meet as well with scoring similar to championship meets.
Tickets to the Texas Relays are on sale with a variety of seating and pricing options. General admission seats at $10 a day beginning Friday with reserved seats at $20. There is no charge for seating Thursday.
The Texas Relays also will be on television with portions of every day’s action on the Longhorn Network. Thursday’s action will be on television beginning at 4 p.m. with Friday having a broadcast window from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and again from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday’s broadcast will start at 1:30 p.m.Fans can keep up with the action at all three meets with live results provided by the hosting schools online.
