
21 SFA Student-Athletes Participate in August Commencement

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Saturday represented the culmination of years of hard word for several former Stephen F. Austin men's and women's athletes. Twenty-one student-athletes, representing 10 different teams walked through graduation ceremonies in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Included among the graduates are nine Southland Conference team titles, numerous all-conference selections, a former SLC Player of the Year, an NCAA All-Region golfer and a bowler who helped guide her squad to a program-best No. 9 national ranking.
The Lumberjack baseball and football team led the way with five graduates. The men's track and field team, along with volleyball and women's basketball each had two graduates. Bowling, men's basketball, men's golf, women's track and field and tennis each had one graduate.
Highlighting the list of graduates are Taylor Smith and Mitchell McLeroy. Smith became the third Lumberjack to be named Southland Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year following a season that saw him lead the nation in field-goal percentage.
McLeroy is one of the program's best golfers. A three-time All-Southland Conference selection, McLeroy closed out his career by advancing to the NCAA Regional Championships each of the past two seasons. A two-time first-team All-SLC selection, McLeroy garnered PING All-Region honors as a senior.
