NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin athletic department announced the addition of Kyle Rogers to the media relations staff on Tuesday afternoon. He will serve as the primary contact for women's basketball, baseball, volleyball, track and field and cross country.
A 2013 graduate of SFA, Rogers served an internship within the SFA media relations office where he assisted with all 17 varsity sports as well as updating the policy and procedures manual for the athletic department. Rogers' work as an intern included writing releases and recaps for all sports, updating bios, in-game statistical inputting, updating social media and handling post-game responsibilities. Rogers also served as the public address announcer for Ladyjack softball and play-by-play announcer for the live streaming of Lumberjack home baseball games.
Rogers, a graduate of Elkins High School in Missouri City, Texas, originally came to SFA as an athlete. Rogers was a pitcher on the 2010 Lumberjack baseball team, but his time on the field was cut short due to consecutive shoulder injuries.
The 22-year-old recently graduated cum laude from SFA with a degree in Radio/TV and minor in journalism. He broke into sports media, co-hosting an award-winning sports talk show on KSAU 90.1 FM, the university's student-run station, while serving as the station's news and sports director. Rogers also served as a contributing writer to the sports section of the university newspaper, The Pine Log. During his senior year Rogers' sports show was recognized by the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association for excellence in collegiate journalism and he was named outstanding student broadcaster for SFA.
