INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks will take on the Stanford Cardinal in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament in a game to be televised on ESPN2.
The Lumberjacks drew a No. 5 seed in the tournament, and an automatic berth in the NIT by virtue of its regular season league championship. The game will be at 10:00 p.m CT on Tuesday in Palo Alto, Calif.
Should SFA win, they would take on the winner of No. 1 Alabama and No. 8 Northeastern. The `Jacks finished the regular season 27-4 and will enter the NIT with the best record of any team in the field.
The Cardinal finished the season 18-14 overall, losing by a point to Arizona State in the Pac 12 Tournament.
This will be the third time SFA has taken part in the NIT, falling 80-60 to UMass in the opening round of the tournament in 2008 after claiming that season's Southland Conference title. SFA also hosted and beat James Madison, 70-63, in the first round of the NIT in 1987 before falling at Arkansas-Little Rock, 54-48 in the second round in SFA's first year as a Division I program.
This will be the first meeting between the teams.
