FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin outside hitter Jill Ivywas named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week after conference officials announced the selection Monday afternoon.
Ivy was the go-to offensive hand for the Laddyjacks last week, helping SFA to three wins and running its win streak to six in a row. Ivy and the Ladyjacks have won 10 of their last 11 matches overall and are the lone remaining team unscathed in Southland Conference play with a 4-0 record.
The sophomore from Katy, Texas, averaged 3.92 kills per set and swung at a .326 clip in leading SFA to wins over Sam Houston State, McNeese State and Lamar. For the season she ranks in the top five in the league with 3.11 kills per set and has had at least 10 kills in 14 of SFA's 16 matches this year.
She opened the week hitting .265 with 18 kills and a pair of blocks in a five-set win over Sam Houston. She then hit .333 with just three misfires on 21 swings against McNeese State, scoring 10 kills and five digs in a sweep of the Cowgirls.
Two days later she closed out SFA's stretch of six matches in seven days with her best offensive showing of the week, a 19-kill performance in which she had just four errors on 40 tries to hit .375 in addition to picking up five blocks.
It is Ivy's first weekly honor of her career and keeps the honor with the Ladyjacks just a week after freshman Cara Leslieearned it last week.
Ivy and the Ladyjacks continue conference play this week with a pair of home matches beginning Thursday vs Oral Roberts before hosting Central Arkansas on Saturday afternoon.
