NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Jeremy Moses and Devin Ducote have joined the Lumberjack coaching staff Stephen F. Austin head coach J.C. Harper announced Friday morning. Moses will work with the inside receivers, while Ducote will assist with the linebackers.
"We are very fortunate to have Jeremy Moses and Devin Ducote join our staff," said Harper. "They have a great understanding of the game of football, and both of them have a true love for SFA. That was evident by the way they played the game, and in the fact they have returned to Nacogdoches as coaches."
Ducote and Moses played key roles in helping SFA reverse its fortunes from an 0-11 2007 campaign to becoming Southland Conference champions just two seasons later. The 'Jacks followed up their 2009 conference title with another top-10 finish and league title in 2010. It was the first time program history that a Lumberjack team had ever won back-to-back titles.
Moses graduated as one of the conference's all-time top quarterbacks. Named to multiple All-America teams, Moses broke every school and conference career record on his way to being named the 2010 Walter Payton Award winner. He also set a new NCAA FCS record for completions (1,184).
Ducote had the same effect on the Lumberjack defense that Moses had on the SFA offense. A three-time All-Southland Conference selection, Ducote finished his career with more than 400 career tackles, including 175 solo tackles. He was also credited with 33 tackles for losses, 5.5 sacks and 10 interceptions. He led the conference, and finished second in the nation as a sophomore on his way to second-team all-conference honors.
The Lumberjacks reported to campus Thursday to begin preseason workouts. The team will take to the field 6:30 Friday evening for their first practice. SFA opens the season Thursday, Aug. 30, against Southwestern Oklahoma.
