GAME INFORMATION
This Week: The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks are set for a pair of weekend games, beginning Friday on the road at Louisiana Tech before returning home for a Sunday tilt against Houston Baptist.
Last Week: In what proved to be one of the most physical games of the early season, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks soccer team answered the call with a gritty 1-0 victory over previously undefeated UTEP Miners Friday evening at the SFA Soccer Complex. Freshman forward Chelsea Raymond scored the lone goal in the fifth minute off a beautiful feed from Kylie Louw, allowing Raymond to sprint past the last defender in the open field and beat UTEP freshman goalkeeper Sarah Dilling.
Series Histories: SFA leads the all-time series versus Louisiana Tech (3-2-0), including a 2-1 victory over the Lady Techsters last year in Nacogdoches. The Ladyjacks won the first ever matchup with Houston Baptist last season with a 3-1 victory in Houston.
The Lady Techsters: La. Tech (4-1-2) is coming off a 1-0 win over Jacksonville State and are 2-0 at home. They have outshot their opponents 127-52 and are averaging 18.1 shots per game. They have also outscored their seven opponents 14-2. Senior defender Olivia Lukasewich leads La. Tech with seven points (3g 1a), followed by sophomore forward Emily Brennan (5 points-2g, 1a) and sophomore forward Taylor Dennis (5 points-1g, 3a).
The Huskies: The Huskies have won two straight contests coming into this weekend, both over Southland Conference opponents. Last Friday HBU knocked off Lamar 3-0 followed by a 2-0 win against Northwestern State on Sunday. The Huskies will enter Sunday having played on Friday at Grambling State. Freshman forward Natalie Hager leads HBU with six points on three goals, including a pair against Lamar.
NEWS AND NOTES
BACK-TO-BACK SHUTOUTS: For a second straight game the Ladyjacks’ defense prevented a goal, marking the first time since the two-game stretch in late October last season versus UTSA (W, 2-0) and Texas State (W, 1-0) that they accomplished the feat.
CHELSEA HEATING UP: Freshman forward Chelsea Raymond scored a goal for the second straight week against UTEP and leads the team with 15 shots.
HOME IS WHERE THE WINS ARE: SFA holds an all-time record of 81-36-12 in home games, but that mark is even better at the current venue. Since moving from Homer Bryce Stadium to the SFA Soccer Complex for the 2003 season, the Ladyjacks are 50-9-5 in home contests. Against Southland Conference foes, SFA is a very tough 29-4-3 at the Soccer Complex.
NINE WINS: SFA finished the 2010 season with a 13-5-2 overall record. This marked the eighth consecutive season for the Ladyjacks to pick up at least nine victories and is the program's seventh straight winning season. The last time an SFA squad failed to reach the nine-win plateau was 2002, also the last time the Ladyjacks posted a losing season (7-9-4).
TITLE TOWN: The SFA women's soccer program has brought an unprecedented five Southland Conference regular-season championships back to Nacogdoches. That total is nearly half of the 13 possible regular-season titles in SLC Soccer history.
