Ladyjacks Place Two on Academic All-SLC Team

FRISCO, Texas - Senior Meaghan Ocanas and junior Alina Shazhko have been named to the 2011 Academic All-Southland Conference team announced league officials Wednesday afternoon.
The duo helped guide SFA through a record-setting season in 2011. The Ladyjacks finished the year with a program-best 20-5 (.800) overall record and recorded their first-ever national ranking. SFA also kicked off the season with a program-best nine-match win streak, which it followed up with a seven-match win streak.
Ocanas closed out her SFA career by posting a career-best 21-6 (.778) record, including an 18-4 (.818) mark during the spring. Ocanas also recorded 16 wins in doubles play this past season, while maintaining a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
Shazhko has been one of the league's top players over the course of the past three seasons. Shazhko posted a 28-7 (.800) record during her junior season, including a 20-4 (.833) mark during the spring season at No. 1 singles. Shazhko's record including a three-set win over the eventual league player of the year. She also won 19 doubles matches during the season and maintained a 3.83 GPA in biochemistry.
