Marion Named To Preseason All-SLC First Team

FRISCO, Texas - Tammara Marion was named to the all-Southland Conference preseason first team on Wednesday while the Ladyjacks were selected to finish second in the SLC West according to the preseason polls of league coaches and sports information directors.
Marion, who was a second team all-conference selection last year, ranked third in the conference in 2010-11 in scoring (16.1). The Houston, Texas native led the team in 3-point percentage (.364) and ranked second in the conference and 14th in the country in free throw percentage (.880)
Along with Marion, SFA returns three other letterwinners from last year's team that went 12-18 (9-7) in Brandon Schneider's first season as head coach. With one of the top recruiting classes in the nation, the Ladyjacks earned four first-place votes in the coaches' poll and three more in the SID poll; however, each poll has UTSA in the top spot in the league's West Division.
On the East Division side, defending champion McNeese State was picked atop the listings with nine first place votes in the coaches' poll and nine in the SID poll. Central Arkansas (2) and Lamar (1) were the only other East Division teams to garner first-place consideration in either poll.
The Ladyjacks open up the 2011-12 season on November 11 at Louisiana-Monroe and is scheduled to begin home play on November 16 against Grambling.
