HOUSTON, Texas - Although the SFA men's and women's multi-event athletes got the outdoor season underway last week, the rest of the Stephen F. Austin track and field had to wait until Friday to open the season. SFA split its squad between the Victor Lopez Bayou Classic in Houston, and the Bobby Lane Invitational in Arlington.
The distance runners took to the track on the opening night of the Lopez Invitational. SFA's Dennis Yeats just missed an individual title in the 5,000-meter run. He clocked a time of 14:47.75 to finish third overall, while teammate Xavier Rodriguez was 10th with a time of 15:01.03.

The Ladyjacks were equally impressive in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Junior Meredith Blocker recorded a time of 11:25.75 to finish third just ahead of teammate Randi Wymer (11:28.90).
The Bobby Lane Invitational opened Friday with the men's and women's hammer throw. Senior Frednisha Marshall finished third in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 52.13.
