
Ladyjacks Win Two Individual Titles

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - In almost a mirror image of the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks' performance Friday evening in Houston, the Ladyjacks recorded two individual titles Saturday afternoon at the Texas A&M Invitational.
Senior Frednisha Marshall recorded the squad's first individual title when she posted a throw of 60-11.25 to finish first in the women's weight throw. Sophomore Danielle Burchett brought home the second title when she won the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:16.07.
Marshall also recorded a top-10 effort in the shot put with her throw of 47-4.50 to place seventh overall. She was one of two Ladyjacks in the event's top 10. Kaitlyn Andrews was ninth overall with her mark of 46-11.75. Burchett wasn't the only Ladyjack to finish in the top 10 of the 800 meters. Sophomore Lauren Watts clocked a time of 2:19.92 to place 9th overall.
Silent-Joy Egboba-Waye was another Ladyjack who scored in two events Saturday. She posted a time of 8.71 to finish sixth overall in the 60-meter hurdles. She then recorded a mark of 18-9.25 to finish fifth in the women's long jump. Junior Camelia Sams also posted a top-10 finish in the long jump with mark of 18-1.75 to finish tied for 10th overall. SFA also placed two athletes in the top 10 in of the high jump. Sophomore Carrie Hahn was fifth overall clearing a height of 5-5.75, while multi-event athlete Tabitha Riley cleared a height of 5-1.75 to finish 10th overall.
The Lumberjacks came close to several individual titles in College Station. Senior Matt Langdon finished second in the weight throw with his mark of 62-1.25. His runner-up finish comes just 24 hours after winning the event in Houston. Senior Keith Mahipala recorded a third-place time of 8:31.73 in the 3,000. Sophomore Jon Arthur was third in the shot put with his throw of 54-5.25, while Andrew Plentl finished third in the high jump (6-6.75). Plentl was one of two 'Jacks to finish in the high jump's top five. Marcus Rosendall cleared the same height but was fifth overall after the tiebreaker.
Other Lumberjacks with strong performances Saturday included Aaron Harlan and Josh Cruse. Harlan, one of the conference's top multi-event athletes, was eighth in the 60-meter hurdles after clocking a time of 8.28. Cruse finished sixth overall in the triple jump with his mark of 47-9.75.
SFA returns to action Friday when they travel to Baton Rouge, La., to compete in the Purple Tiger Invitational.
