
Track & Field Opens 2010 Slate

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team opens the 2010 indoor season Friday at the Leonard Hilton Invitational. The meet is slated to begin at 11 a.m. from the Yeoman Fieldhouse. The first event of the day will be the men's and women's weight throw. The track events will get under way at 1 p.m. with the women's 200-meter dash.
Athletes from 14 different schools are scheduled to compete in Houston. The meet will feature teams from meet-host Houston, Abilene Christian, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana Tech, Nicholls (women), Prairie View A&M, Rice, Texas, Texas Southern, Tulane (women), Louisiana-Lafayette and UTSA.
The Ladyjacks are the reigning Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Champions, and return the heart of their roster from last season. In fact the Ladyjacks return all but four points from last year's conference championship team. The Lumberjacks are in a similar position heading into the 2010 season. The SFA men return all but two points from the 2009 indoor season.
Several athletes will be in College Station, Texas, Saturday to compete in the Texas A&M Invitational. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with the men's and women's 60-meter hurdles. The field events are also slated to get under way at 1 p.m. The first field event of the meet will be the men's shot put, and the women's weight throw, high jump and triple jump.
