NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team put a halt to their four-game skid Saturday with a 98-85 victory over Sam Houston State. The Ladyjacks (6-6/1-0 SLC) will look to make it consecutive wins as they travel to Conway, Ark., to take on Central Arkansas. The Sugar Bears are off to one of their best starts in school history with a 10-4 (.714)start, but are 0-1 in conference play. The Sugar Bears are coming off a 21-point setback to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi that ended a modest two-game win streak. The game against UCA is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from the Farris Center.
SFA vs. the Sugar Bears: The Ladyjacks are a perfect 4-0 all-time against Central Arkansas, including a 2-0 mark in Conway. SFA is coming off a 78-46 decision in the Farris Center last season.
Double-Double: After missing the Tulsa game due to an injury, junior Toni Davis responded in a big way against Sam Houston State. Davis scored 15 points, and pulled down 10 rebounds. It is Davis' third-career double-double, and her second this season. The Ladyjacks have recorded six double-doubles this season.
Ladyjack Academic Shootout: The annual Ladyjack Academic Shootout is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 20, when SFA hosts Southeastern Louisiana. Fans can pledge a certain amount per point, or a flat rate. The money goes to support the Ladyjacks' summer school scholarships. A pledge will be set up at the front gate of the coliseum prior to every home game.
Spreading the Wealth: The Ladyjacks continue to do a good job of spreading the wealth. The Ladyjacks have had five players in double-figures in each of the past two games.
Leading the Way: Senior Whitney Cormier overcame her brief two-game scoring slump to lead SFA in its past two games. Cormier has averaged 17.0 points per game in the team's last two contest.
Approaching the Century Mark: The Ladyjacks scored a season-high 98 points against Sam Houston State. It is the most points by a Ladyjack squad since they scored 100 against Sam Houston State during the 1999-2000 season.
Déja Vu All Over Again: The Ladyjacks tied a school record with their 11 three-pointers at Tulsa. It marks the second time this season SFA has hit 11 threes in a game, and the fourth time in school history.
Approaching the Milestone: Senior Whitney Cormier scored 15 points at Tulsa and needs only 93 points to become the 24th Ladyjack in school history to score 1,000 points.
Bouncing Back: After struggling with only two points at Tulsa, junior forward Jordan Ford rebounded by leading SFA with 21 points in the win over Sam Houston State. It is the second time this season that Ford, and the fourth time this year that a Ladyjack, has scored at least 20 points in a game.
Long-Range Threat: Senior Whitney Cormier is becoming one of the top three-point threats in the league. After only hitting 13 triples in her first three seasons on campus, Cormier has recorded 15 this season.
Up Next ... The Ladyjacks will return to action in the William R. Johnson Coliseum Saturday when they host Nicholls. The Colonels (3-10/0-1 SLC) have lost five of their last six games, and are coming off a 97-67 setback against Northwestern State. Saturday's game against the Colonels is scheduled for a 6 p.m. tip.
