FRISCO, Texas - For the second time in three weeks freshman kicker Evan Engwall has been named Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week. Engwall also received the honor following the 'Jacks' season opener at SMU.
The Derby, Kan., native was the difference in the Lumberjacks' 40-30 victory at Western Illinois over the weekend. Engwall recorded a career-high 14 points that included a 4-of-5 (.800) performance on field goals. Engwall recorded a career-long 51-yarder on his first attempt of the game. He returned to the field less than three minutes later to convert a 50-yard field goal. He also converted from 18 an 38 yards.
Engwall became the first Lumberjack since the 1997 season to convert two field goals from at least 50 yards in the same game. He is currently 7-of-9 (.778) on the season, and is a perfect 4-of-4 on attempts of 40 yards or longer.
The Lumberjacks return to action Saturday when they host North Dakota. The game against the Fighting Sioux is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
