SFA Closes Out NCAA Midwest Regional Championships

NORMAN, Okla. - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team closed out the 2009 NCAA Midwest Regional Championships Saturday in Norman, Okla. Junior thrower Matt Langdon recorded SFA's third top-10 finish of the meet when he recorded a school-record toss of 189-9 to finish 10th in the men's hammer. The Ladyjacks had two athletes competing in the women's shot put. Sophomore Kaitlyn Andrews recorded the best throw of the two with her mark of 48-4.00 to finish 17th overall. Junior Frednisha Marshall finished 27th overall with her throw of 46-2.75.
Junior Keith Mahipala finished 13th in the men's 3,000 meters with his time of 9:16.74. The Lumberjacks' 4X400-meter relay team also finished 13th overall crossing the finish line with a time of 3:11.27.
SFA had three athletes competing in the men's and women's 5,000 meters late Friday evening. Freshman Mitch Ownbey finished 16th overall with a time of 14:31.21. Ownbey recorded the second-fastest time of all freshmen in the race. Freshman Stephanie Ganter and sophomore Amy Shackelford finished just more than three seconds apart in the women's 5,000-meter race. Ganter clocked a time of 17:14.92 to finish 15th overall, while Shackelford was 16th with a time of 17:18.00.
