SFA Competes at NCAA Regional Championships

NORMAN, Okla. - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team began competition at the 2009 NCAA Midwest Regional Championships Friday in Norman, Okla. SFA finished the day by posting top-10 finishes in the women's hammer throw and long jump.
Junior Frednisha Marshall scored three points for the Ladyjacks with her sixth-place finish in the hammer throw. She recorded a mark of 177-7 in the event. Junior Silent-Joy Egboba-Waye just missed a top-10 finish with her mark of 19-5.25 in the long jump finishing 12th overall. She returned to action in the women's 100-meter hurdles and clocked a top-10 time for SFA. She just missed a school record in the event by three-hundredths of a second when she crossed the line with a time of 13.76 to place 10th overall. Egboba-Waye just missed qualifying for the finals by eight-one hundredths of a second.
Freshman Nick McCloud clocked a time of 14.23 to finish 14th overall in the 110-meter hurdles. He missed qualifying for the finals by 25-hundredths of a second.
SFA sent freshman Mitch Ownbey to compete in the men's 5,000-meter run, and sophomore Amy Shackelford and freshman Stephanie Ganter to compete in the women's 5,000 meters, but those two races were not finished by press time.
