NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack (10-10/5-3 SLC) basketball team enters Saturday's contest winners of two straight, and three of their last four games. The Ladyjacks will look for their first three-game win streak of the season Saturday when they travel to Beaumont, Texas, to take on Lamar. The Lady Cardinals are 14-7 (.667) on the year, and currently in a three-way tie for fourth in the league with a 5-3 (.625) conference mark. Saturday's game is the lone regular-season match-up between the two schools who switched divisions this season.
SFA vs. the Lady Cardinals: The Ladyjacks are 40-5 (.889) all-time against Lamar, but the Lady Cardinals have had some success in the series of late. Lamar has won three of the last four meetings in the series, including a 60-48 victory in the opening round of the conference tournament last season. Lamar recorded a 72-70 win against SFA last season in Beaumont.
The Defense Doesn't Rest: The Ladyjack offense has struggled to score points over the course of the past two games, but where the offense has struggled, the defense has picked up the slack. The Ladyjacks have only allowed their opponents 52.5 points over the course of the past two games.
Cormier's Stock on the Rise: Junior Whitney Cormier just missed her third consecutive double-double of the season Wednesday evening with her 20-point, nine-rebound performance in the win over Nicholls. Cormier went 7-of-13 (.538) from the floor, and 6-of-9 (.667) from the free throw line. Cormier is averaging 16.3 points, and 9.8 rebounds over the course of the team's past four games.
Stepping Up in the Clutch: Sophomore Toni Davis recorded one her best games of the season in the Ladyjacks' thrilling victory over Nicholls Wednesday. Davis scored 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting. She also pulled down six rebounds in the contest. The 14 points are a season high, and it is only the third time this season she has scored in double figures, and the first time since her 12-point outing against San Francisco.
Up Next ... The Ladyjacks return to action Wednesday when they host Northwestern State. The game against the Lady Demons id slated to begin at 7 p.m., and will be the Ladyjacks Pink Zone game, to help raise awareness in the fight against Breast Cancer. All fans wearing pink will get into the game for free.
