FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin junior guard Whitney Cormier has been named Southland Conference Player of the Week announced league officials Monday afternoon. Cormier guided SFA to back-to-back victories over SLC East Division leader Northwestern State and McNeese State last week.
The honor, which is the first of Cormier's career, comes following one of the best weeks of the Fort Worth native's career. Cormier guided the Ladyjacks to an 18-point victory over Northwestern State by scoring a career-high 26 points and pulling down eight rebounds. She was also a factor on the defensive end of the floor recording four steals, and blocking two shots.
After scoring only four points in the first half at McNeese State, Cormier almost matched her point total from the game before posting a team-high 23 points, including a 9-of-10 (90 percent) effort at the free throw line. Cormier averaged 24.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in the two games, but is averaging 18.1 points over the course of the team's last four games.
