NACOGDOCHES - Heavy rains came through and washed out the Lumberjacks' Monday evening practice, but head coach J.C. Harper and his troops were back at it Tuesday morning. The rains cooled off the temperatures as the 'Jacks got a rare break from the East Texas heat. The rains held off just long enough for SFA to get in an early morning workout.
With the 2008 season opener quickly approaching, SFA is looking for someone to step up and solidify the backup quarterback role. Coppell native, Dalton Williams, has shown considerable improvements over the last couple days and was impressive in the team's two scrimmages last week. The 6-4, 200-pound Williams completed 25-of-29 (86.2 percent) passes for 255 yards and 4 touchdowns Saturday evening.
The 'Jacks will be facing one of the nation's toughest schedules in 2008. The Sports Network released their preseason top 25 poll Monday and it included four teams ranked in the FCS top 25, and one team in the top 10. SFA will also be playing three teams that enter 2008 campaign listed among the "Others Receiving Votes" category.
Quick Hits The Lumberjacks kick off the 2008 season Saturday, Aug. 30, against Langston. The game against the Lions is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
The annual `Meet the 'Jacks' is slated for Thursday, Aug. 21, at 6 p.m. in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom. Tickets are $10, and can be purchased from any Fredonia Rotary member.
