Senior kicker Cory Long has been named Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week announced league officials Monday afternoon. It marks the second consecutive week that a Lumberjack has received the award. It is also the second time that Long has received the honor.
After falling behind by 28 points in the first half of Saturday's conference opener against Southeastern Louisiana, the Lumberjacks rallied to tie the game at 45 with 3:45 remaining. SFA got the ball back and moved it down to the Lion six-yard line with seven seconds remaining to set up the field goal attempt. Long completed the comeback by drilling the 23-yard attempt.
Long finished the game with six points, going a perfect 3-of-3 on extra-point attempts. The player of the week honor comes only week after Long set a career-high with 12 points against No. 20 South Dakota State.
The Lumberjacks return to action Saturday when they close out their non-conference schedule against Kentucky Wesleyan. The game against Panthers is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
