NACOGDOCHES - The 2006-07 season is heading into the final stretch and both the Stephen F. Austin men and women's basketball teams are in the thick of the Southland Conference race. The Lumberjacks are 14-8 (.636) overall and currently third in the SLC West with a 7-3 (.700) league record. The Ladyjacks are 15-8 on the season and tied for second in the SLC West Division with a 7-3 (.700) conference tally.
Both teams have upcoming games that will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest. The 'Jacks will host defending conference champion Northwestern State Monday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks will face Sam Houston State Friday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to show up early to support SFA, as Lumberjack Alley will open three hours prior to each game. SFA students will get in free with a valid student ID card, and all fans wearing purple will receive free admission to the game. The first 400 students in attendance will receive a free SFA T-shirt.
Along with the exciting action of NCAA Division I basketball heading into March Madness, it could also be a very lucrative night for those in attendance. Brookshire Brothers is sponsoring a $100 Grocery Grab, and student organizations have the opportunity to win $200 in the Show for Dough contest. The loudest fans will also receive a free pizza. An IPOD Shuffle will be handed out at halftime of the 'Jacks' game against Northwestern State.
Both Ladyjack and Lumberjack teams will be participating with their fans in the "Wear Purple" event. Stepping away tradition, SFA will be wearing its all purple road uniforms at both games.
Students who have late classes will not have to worry about rushing to get a meal before arriving at the game. The William R. Johnson Coliseum concessions are now accepting student meal plans.
