NACOGDOCHES - Seniors Kim Gray and Natascia Michalezki and juniors Shahin Pabani and Andrea Ramirez were named to the 2005 Preseason All-Southland Conference teams announced league officials Friday afternoon. Gray Michalezki and Pabani earned first-team honors while Ramirez was a second-team selection.
Gray is a three-time All-Southland Conference defender and a two-time first-team selection. Gray helped lead a Ladyjack defense last season that was one of the best not only in the league, but arguably the best in school history. SFA recorded five shutout victories in 2004 on its way to SLC regular-season title.
Michalezki is returning for her final season looking to put an exclamation point on a record-breaking career. Michalezki is a three-time All-SLC selection that earned first-team honors as a junior. Michalezki is already the school's all-time (418), season (154) and single-game (24) leader in saves. Break that down even further, Michalezki has the top three single-season save marks in SFA history along with six of the top-10 single-game marks in school history.
Pabani really stepped to the forefront of the team last season offensively. Pabani scored a school-record 36 points and tied a school record with 15 goals leading SFA to its third conference title in school history. She was tops in the league in scoring and finished second in goals scored.
Ramirez has been an unsung hero for the Ladyjacks defensively, being a part of two of the best defensive units in school history as a freshman and sophomore. Ramirez has helped the Ladyjacks record 14 shutouts in her first two season as SFA has won a conference tournament and a regular-season title.
The Ladyjacks kick-off the 2005 season Saturday Aug. 20, with an exhibition against SMU. The game against the Mustangs is slated to begin at 7 p.m., from the SFA Intramural Complex.
