
'Jacks First, Ladyjacks Second at SLC Outdoors

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin track and field team finished the second day of competition at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships in Huntsville, Texas, Saturday night. The Lumberjacks scored 73.50 points to move into first place, while the Ladyjacks have put up 74 points and are in second place, only 12 points back of first.
SFA dominated the shot put Saturday afternoon as sophomore Markeisha Edwards won the event with a throw 49-1.00. Junior Kenneth McKinley completed the shot put sweep winning the event with a throw of 59-7.50.
SFA had six other athletes who earned All-SLC honors Saturday afternoon led by junior Crystal Chang who finished third in the heptathlon and recorded an NCAA Provisional score with of 5,036 points. Sophomore Reggie Lazenby was the SLC runner-up in the long jump with his mark of 24-6.50. Justin Reyes earned his first All-SLC honor in the high jump with his mark of 6-8.75. Sophomore Eric Brill also earned all-conference honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as he crossed the finish line with a time of 9:22.51. Senior Jocelyn Stevens earned all-conference in the high jump as she cleared a height of 5-8.75. Sophomore Katrina Nicholas was third in the steeplechase (11:29.40).
Other Lumberjacks that had a strong showing Saturday afternoon were Bo Simpson who finished fourth in the decathlon, just missing all-conference honors with his score of 6,301 points. Teammate Ray Shadowens scored 5,958 points to finish sixth overall. Sophomore James Williams finished sixth in the shot put with a throw 52-11.00. Cale Trail just missed All-SLC honors in the high jump, clearing a height of 6-8.75. Teammate Carlious Owens finished seventh in the high jump clearing height 6-6.75. Daniel Williams finished fourth in the steeplechase with a time of 9:24.37.
Senior Lindsey Bryson finished sixth in the heptathlon with a score of 4,652 points. Senior Teresa Murray was fourth in the high jump clearing a height of 5-8.75. Freshman Audrey Azu was seventh in the high jump as she cleared a height of 5-5.00. Sophomore LaQuisha Houston finished eighth in the shot put (43-8.50). Sophomore Kirsten Wieseman finished sixth in the steeplechase, crossing the line with a time of 11:43.83. Senior Jessica Partin finished eighth in the event with a time of 11:47.44.
SFA returns to action Sunday with the women's discus which gets under way at 1 p.m. The track events will begin at 5:05 p.m., with the women' 4X100-meter relay.
