The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team will travel to Waco Thursday to take on the Baylor Bears in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m. The games were originally scheduled for March 3, but were postponed due to inclement weather.
SFA enters the game having won three of its last five games and has gone 8-6 since the middle of March. Included in that span are non-conference wins over Arkansas, Louisiana Tech and North Texas.
OF Carrie Woydziak has regained the team lead with a .374 batting average. Woydziak has a team high 40 hits on the season and also leads the team with 26 runs scored. She regained the batting average lead from Tara Hersey last week after breaking out of a mini-slump which saw her average dip to about .355 for the year. Woydziak now has her average back up to .374 and looks to close out the season strong and post back-to-back seasons hitting .400 or better.
Hersey meanwhile is having the best year of her SFA career hitting .355, which is second on the team. She is also tied for the team lead with four home runs and leads the club with 24 RBI. Her .591 slugging percentage is second only to Nicole Carter (.605) for the year. Fourteen of Hersey's 33 hits this season have been for extra bases.
Following the doubleheader with Baylor, SFA returns to Nacogdoches for the final conference home series of the season with UL-Monroe. Saturday's doubleheader is Parent's Day for the softball squad with games beginning at 1:00 p.m. Sunday's single game is Senior Day with game time set for 1:00 p.m.
