
`Jacks Tied for Third at SLC Championships

KINGWOOD, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team is tied for third after the first day of competition at the Southland Conference Championship in Kingwood, Texas Monday afternoon. SFA shot a first-round 293 to finish the day only five strokes back of Lamar (288).
The `Jacks received strong first-day performances from Trevor Sauntry and Dustin Byrd who are currently tied for first after shooting a three-under-par 69. Sauntry shot a 35 on the front nine and followed that up with a 34, while Byrd shot a 36 on the first nine holes, followed by a 33 on the back nine.
Jeremy Ice is currently tied for 27 after shooting a three-over-par 75 on the first day. Teammate Brian Grossman is five strokes back of Ice, with his opening-round score of 80 to finish the day 43rd overall. James McLeod is only one spot back of Grossman with his 81 Monday afternoon.
The Lumberjacks return to action for the second day of the SLC Championships Tuesday morning at the Kingwood Forest Golf Course.
