
SFA Enters SLC Championships

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team looks to put and end to a six-game losing streak as they enter the 2005 Southland Conference Championship tournament as the league's No. 7 seed. The Ladyjacks enter the tournament with a 12-15 (.444) overall mark and will travel to Arlington, Texas, to face the second-seeded UTA Lady Mavs, who enter the tournament as the conference co-champions with an 18-9 (.667) overall record. The game against the Lady Mavs is slated to tip-off at 7 p.m., from Texas Hall. If the Ladyjacks defeat UTA, they will play in the conference semifinal game on Wednesday night. The SLC Championship game will be played Saturday Mar. 12, at 1 p.m., on the campus of the highest remaining seed.
The Ides of March: The Ladyjacks enter the 2005 Southland Conference Championships looking to win their 15th SLC tournament title and make their 18th appearance in the NCAA Championships.
Been There, Done That: The 2005 Southland Conference Championship tournament marks the 18th consecutive trip to the conference playoffs for SFA. In fact, SFA has advanced to the league tournament every year since joining the league.
SFA vs. the SLC Championships: The Ladyjacks have been the Southland Conference's most dominating team in the league tournament. SFA is 33-3 (.917) all-time in the SLC Championships. The Ladyjacks have earned the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Championships 14 times, with one runner-up finish.
SFA vs. No. 2 Lady Mavs: The Ladyjacks are 40-8 (.833) all-time against Texas-Arlington. The Ladyjacks have dropped four-straight and five of the last six to the Lady Mavs, including four-straight defeats at Texas Hall. The Ladyjacks are 5-1 (.833) all-time against UTA in the SLC Championship tournament, with the lone loss being a 69-61 decision in the first-round of the playoffs last season.
SFA in Opening Round Games: The Ladyjacks are 15-2 (.882) all-time in opening round games of the Southland Conference Championships.

If the Ladyjacks get by second-seeded Texas-Arlington and go on to win the 2005 Southland Conference tournament title, they will receive the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Championships. It would be the Ladyjacks' 18th trip to the NCAA Championships. The selection show for the NCAA Championships will be televised Sunday Mar. 13, at 4 p.m., on ESPN.
