Ana Rodriguez Qualifies for NCAA Meet

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field team opened up competition in the 2004 NCAA Midwest Regional Championships Friday afternoon in College Station. Senior Ana Rodriguez recorded a school-record time of 16:52.74 in the 5,000 meters to finish third and qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Other Ladyjacks that had strong performance for SFA on the first day of competition were senior Blake Gordon and junior Jocelyn Stevens. Gordon just missed an automatic berth in the NCAA Championships with her sixth-place finish in the discus. Gordon recorded a throw of 165-10.00 in the event. Stevens advanced to the finals in the 400-meter hurdles with her time of 1:00.74. Stevens' time was the sixth-best time in the preliminaries. Sophomore Stevina Wyatt recorded a time of 14.11 to finish 15th overall in the 100-meter hurdles.
For the Lumberjacks, senior Paul Todd cleared a height of 6-11.00 in the high jump to finish in a two-way tie for 13th. Classmate Justin Meier finished 16th in the 1,500-meter run with his time of 3:57.35. SFA had two athletes finish among the region's top 20 in the 110-meter hurdles as senior Alex Beckworth concluded his career with a time of 14.27 to finish 15th overall. Freshman Reggie Lazenby was 20th with his time of 14.39 in the event.
Rodriguez will return to action June 9th through June 12th when she travels to Austin for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
