NACOGDOCHES, Texas-- Stephen F. Austin State University Athletics Director Steve McCarty announced today that John Branch has been named assistant athletics director for external affairs at the university. Branch had been the coordinator of athletic operations at SFA for the past seven years.
"I am very pleased to announce that we have promoted John Branch to assistant athletics director for external affairs. John has been a valuable part of the athletics department since his time as an undergraduate at the university. For the past seven years he has done a tremendous job organizing and overseeing athletic home events. Moving John into this role will allow us to more fully utilize some of his other talents," McCarty said.
Prior to taking on his new role, Branch was responsible for the staging and management of all home intercollegiate events and served as the department's liaison to outside groups using athletic department facilities. He also oversaw the coordination of departmental special events and post-season tournaments. In the summer of 1993, Branch worked as an intern for the Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys, and accompanied the team on its American Bowl appearance at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Branch also worked as a tournament volunteer at the 2001 PGA Championship in Atlanta, and has worked several Southland Conference post-season championships.
Branch earned both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master's in Education from SFA.
