McDonald Named Assistant AD / Student Services

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University athletics director Steve McCarty announced today the hiring of Stephanie G. McDonald as assistant athletic director for student services. McDonald replaces Darren Fort who held the position for the past four years prior to leaving for a position at Texas Tech University.
"We are very fortunate to be able to add someone of Stephanie's ability and experience to our staff. She has a thorough knowledge of a number of student service issues and will do a great job handling academic and student-athlete welfare concerns at SFA," said McCarty.
McDonald, a 1993 graduate of Texas Woman's University, comes to SFA having spent the past four years as the assistant commissioner / sports programs and women's basketball operations at the Mid-America Conference in Cleveland, Ohio. In that role, McDonald oversaw all facets of the women's basketball teams in the conference. She also was the conference representative for eight other varsity sports.
Prior to her stint with the Mid-American Conference she spent a year as the director of compliance at North Carolina State University. McDonald, who holds a juris doctorate degree from the University of Texas, also spent one year as a compliance coordinator at Cleveland State working with all 14 varsity sports.
During her educational career, McDonald served as an intern for then governor George W. Bush and also spent time as a marketing and promotions intern at the University of Texas.
Ms. McDonald currently serves on the NCAA Division I Management Council and has served on the NCAA Championships and Competition Committee. A member of the Texas Bar Association since 1996, McDonald will oversee all issues involving academics for student-athletes in SFA's 14 intercollegiate varsity sports. She will also serve as the department's Senior Woman Administrator when she begins her duties Aug. 29.
A native of Killeen, she and husband Antonio, are the parents of a nine month old daughter, Halle.
