The Lumberjacks continue to ride the wave of momentum that has resulted from their current nine game winning streak. SFA extended the streak to nine Thursday night with a 74-62 win over Lamar. Four Lumberjacks ended the night in double figures with G B.J. Banks leading the way with 14 points.
Playing without F Dedrick Sanders and F Antonio Burks, the second and third leading scorers on the team, the 'Jacks got great performances from Banks and F Stevin Ozier. Ozier posted his second double-double of the season with an 11-point, 11-rebound effort. In four career games versus the Cardinals, Ozier has posted three double-doubles.
C Percy Green chipped in 13 points and G Marcus Clark added 12 points off the bench, including an 8-8 night at the line. Clark is shooting .872 at the line for the year. Tenacious defense and good field goal shooting continue as the trademarks of the team during the current nine game run. Against Lamar Thursday night, SFA shot just over 46 percent from the field and committed only 11 turnovers while forcing the Cardinals into 18 TOs.
The 'Jacks and Bearkats meet Saturday with sole possession of first place in the Southland Conference on the line. At 6-0, the Lumberjacks hold a one game lead over Sam Houston nearing the midpoint of the SLC race. The Bearkats have won two straight and seven of their last eight. Their only loss was a 69-60 loss to Southwest Texas in San Marcos. The preseason favorite to win the SLC regular season title, Sam Houston features six seniors on an experienced roster.
