
Ladyjack Volleyball Holds Scrimmage

Nacogdoches - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team held an intrasquad scrimmage Monday night at William R. Johnson Coliseum. The matches were split with the white team winning game one and the purple team winning game two.
Freshman Joanna Benestante (Houston, Texas) led the purple squad with six kills on 17 attempts, while classmate Deborah Kirkham (Houston, Texas) led the white squad with a .444 attack percentage. She recorded four kills on nine total attacks with no errors. Kirkham also played well on defense recording five digs. Junior Angie Wood (Houston, Texas) led the white team with five kills on a 11 attempts. Senior Kristy Rhodes (Cypress, Texas) and sophomore Julie Goodson (Alvin, Texas) also recorded four kills for the white squad.
SFA got solid play from both of its setters as junior Sunni Williams (Houston, Texas) dished out 16 assists for the white squad. Senior Marissa Dorcheus (Houston, Texas) recorded 10 assists and one service ace for the purple squad.
Defensively, senior Joci Shaw (Albuquerque, N.M.) led both squads with seven digs.
The Ladyjacks open the regular season Friday Aug. 31, against Houston in the Rice Tournament. The match is slated to start at 1 p.m. from Houston, Texas.
