‘Jacks in Fourth Place Following First Two Rounds of Bearkat Invitational

SFA shoots a 10-over 298 in the opening round and a 9-over 297 in the second round to hold a two-round total of 19-over 595
MONTGOMERY, Texas – Competing in its final regular-season tournament of the season the Stephen F. Austin men's golf team finds itself in fourth place after the opening day of play at Sam Houston State's Bearkat Invitational in Montgomery, Texas. The Lumberjacks shot a 10-over 298 in the opening round Monday morning at the Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club, before recording a 9-over 297 on the second 18 holes of play during the afternoon.
Owning a two-round total of 19-over 595, SFA sits three strokes behind third-place holder and fellow Southland Conference member Incarnate Word (16-over 592). Tournament host Sam Houston State is in second place through the first 36 holes of play with a 4-under 572, while the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) owns a two-stroke advantage for the lead at 6-under 570.
Tied for eighth among 63 total golfers after the first two rounds, junior Angelo Leyvani (San Antonio, Texas) owns a 2-over 146 after shooting an even-par 72 on the first 18 holes and a 2-over 74 on the second 18 holes. Junior Jake Hendrix (Austin, Texas) improved his score by five strokes between the two rounds, tallying a 5-over 77 in the morning's round before registering an even-par 72 Monday afternoon. He sits tied for 15th on the individual leaderboard with a two-round total of 5-over 149.
Likewise, freshman Andy Lopez (Dallas, Texas) improved his first-round score by four strokes, shooting a 5-over 77 followed by a 1-over 73 to stand tied for 19th with a 36-hole score of 6-over 150. Fellow freshman Steven Fabik (Carrollton, Texas) shot an even-par 72 on the 6,756-yard course in the opening round but collected a 9-over 81 on the second 18 holes of play to end the day tied for 28th with a 9-over 153.
Senior Blake Stock (Hewitt, Texas) posted identical scores of 6-over 78 in the opening two rounds to own a total tally of 12-over 156, sitting tied for 38th.
Sam Houston State's Jake McCrory leads the event with a two-round tally of 7-under 137, while UTRGV's Tennoshin Ogawa is second on the leaderboard with a 3-under 141. Both the Bearkats' William Holcomb and UTRGV's Alvaro Hernandez are tied for third at 1-under 143.
The third and final round of the Bearkat Invitational will conclude the tournament Tuesday morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The 'Jacks are paired with Midland Community College and Southland counterpart New Orleans for the final 18 holes of play and will tee off from holes 4-8. Leyvani is set to start from hole No. 4, Hendrix at hole No. 5, Lopez from hole No. 6, Fabik at hole No. 7 and Stock off of hole No. 8.
