Women’s Golf Eighth after Opening Round of 2018 Southland Conference Championship

Ladyjacks record a 34-over 318 in the first round, Alexandra Batista tied for seventh after shooting a 4-over 75
MONTGOMERY, Texas – After the opening round of the 2018 Southland Conference Women's Golf Championship at the Woodforest Golf Club in Montgomery, Texas, the Stephen F. Austin women's golf team sits in eighth place. With ideal golf conditions present following a chilly start, the Ladyjacks shot a 34-over 318 as a team during Monday morning's first round on the par-71, 6,191-yard course.
Defending Southland champion Houston Baptist leads after the opening 18 holes of play with a team score of 13-over 297, while Central Arkansas is two strokes off the lead with a first-round tally of 15-over 299. Sam Houston State shot a 21-over 305 Monday to sit in third place
The three-day, 54-hole championship event will continue Tuesday, April 17 with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. once again. The third and final round of the Southland championship will take Wednesday, April 18.
Seventh-seeded SFA was paired with eighth-seeded Incarnate Word for the opening round as sophomore Alexandra Batista registered a 4-over 75 Monday to stand tied for seventh among 40 total golfers on the individual leaderboard. She sits four strokes off the lead, which is held by HBU's Alisa Chong (even-par 71). Central Arkansas' Geraldine Wong is in second place after shooting a 1-over 72, while HBU's Kaity Cummings is third with a first-round score of 2-over 73.
Redshirt junior Erica Lautensack started the morning off strong but finished with a 7-over 78 and is tied for 20th among all golfers. Sophomore Paola Cortes and freshman Alexis Szewczyk were just one stroke off one another in the opening round. Cortes shot a 11-over 82 Monday morning to stand in 37th place on the individual leaderboard, while Szewczyk posted a 12-over 83 to sit in 38th place. Redshirt junior Jamee Jorgensen rounds out the Ladyjacks as she is 40th after the first round with a 15-over 86.
For the second consecutive day, SFA is paired with seventh-place Incarnate Word and will tee off of hole No. 1 starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday. Jorgensen will lead off the second round right at 8 a.m., followed by Szewczyk at 8:09 a.m., Cortes at 8:18 a.m., Lautensack at 8:27 a.m. and Batista at 8:36 a.m.
