Men’s Golf in Fourth Place Following Opening Two Rounds of Play Monday at Lake Charles Invitational

‘Jacks tally a 1-over 289 in the opening round and an even-par 288 in the second round to own total score of 1-over 577
LAKE CHARLES, La. – Through two rounds of golf at the Lake Charles Invitational in Louisiana, the men's golf team owns its third-lowest two-round score of the season and sits tied for fourth among 11 teams. The Lumberjacks shot a 1-over 289 in Monday morning's opening round of play at the Country Club at the Golden Nugget before registering an even-par 288 in the second round to finish the first day of competition with a 1-over 577.
SFA stands eight strokes off the lead in the two-day, 54-hole tournament, which is led by Louisiana-Lafayette with a 7-under 569. Marquette (2-under 574) and fellow Southland Conference member Lamar (1-under 575) are second and third, respectively, ahead of the 'Jacks in the team standings.
Two SFA golfers sit within the top 10 on the individual leaderboard at the event hosted by McNeese. Junior Jake Hendrix (Austin, Texas) is tied for fourth among 61 total golfers heading into Tuesday's final day of play, while freshmen Andy Lopez (Dallas, Texas) is tied for eighth. Hendrix shot a career-low 3-under 69 in the first round and followed up that performance with a 1-under 71 score on the second 18 holes of play, totaling a 4-under 140 through two rounds. Two other golfers own an identical scores as Henderix and all are seven strokes off the lead, held by Louisiana-Lafayette's Jack Tolson at 11-under 133. Lopez was steady in both rounds Monday, shooting an even-par 72 and a 2-under 70 to earn a 2-under 142 tally through the day one of play.
Senior Blake Stock (Hewitt, Texas) started the day off by recording a 3-over 75 but turned in an even-par 72 on the second 18 holes of play to move up 14 spots on the leaderboard. He is tied for 22nd with a two-round total of 3-over 147.
Not too far behind Stock is junior Angelo Leyvani (San Antonio, Texas), who posted a two-round score of 5-over 149 Monday with a 2-over 74 and a 3-over 75 to sit tied for 30th. Freshman Steven Fabik (Carrollton, Texas) is tied for 40th after shooting a 2-over 74 on the par-72, 6,869-yard course Monday morning and tallying a 5-over 77 in the afternoon to own a cumulative total of 7-over 151.
Tuesday's third round and final round will get underway at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. The 'Jacks are paired with Texas State and Southern Mississippi and will tee off from holes 5-8 with Hendrix and Lopez both on hole No. 5, Stock on hole No. 6, Leyvani on hole No. 7 and Fabik teeing off from hole No. 8.
