Women’s Golf Sixth Through Opening Round of ORU/SFA Spring Break Invitational

Ladyjacks shoot a 40-over 328 in round one, Erica Lautensack and Alexandra Batista sit in top 15 on individual leaderboard
TROPHY CLUB, Texas – Co-hosting the third annual ORU/SFA Spring Break Invitational with Oral Roberts University at the Trophy Club Country Club in Trophy Club, Texas, the Stephen F. Austin women's golf team shot a 40-over 328 in the opening round Monday to sit in sixth place among seven teams. The Ladyjacks have two golfers standing in the top 15 on the individual leaderboard after the first day of play as redshirt junior Erica Lautensack (Arlington, Texas) leads SFA and is tied for fifth with a first-round score of 6-over 78.
Trophy Club native, sophomore Alexandra Batista is tied for 12th among 44 total golfers after shooting an 8-over 80 on the par-72, 6,200-yard Whitworth golf course. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is led by Northern Iowa, who tallied a 26-over 314 Monday, while co-host Oral Roberts shot a 33-over 321 and is in second place. UT Arlington sits in third place nine strokes off the lead with a 35-over 323.
Three SFA golfers are tied for 29th after sophomore Paola Cortes (Allen, Texas), redshirt junior Jamee Jorgensen (Boerne, Texas) and freshman Alexis Szewczyk (McKinney, Texas) all registered a 13-over 85 in the opening round. Competing as individuals, freshman Kelly Yang (Sugar Land, Texas) and senior Zoey Daneshfar (Trophy Club, Texas) shot a 16-over 88 and a 17-over 89, respectively, Monday to stand tied for 37th and in 40th place on the leaderboard.
Northern Iowa's Maddie Bertsch leads all golfers at the event after tallying a 3-over 75 in round one, while Oral Roberts' Kennedy Ishee is in second place with a first-round score of 4-over 76. Both UT Arlington's Sydney Garber and Bowling Green's Erin Fahey are tied for third with opening round marks of 5-over 77.
The ORU/SFA Spring Break Invitational continues Tuesday with the second round, followed by Wednesday's third and final round. Both rounds of play will feature single tee starts off of hole No. 1 beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The Ladyjacks have been paired with Creighton and individual golfers from Northern Iowa once again for Tuesday's second round. SFA will be the first group to tee off led by Szewczyk at 8:30 a.m. and followed by Cortes and Daneshfar at 8:40 a.m. Jorgensen and Yang will begin at 8:50 a.m., while Batista will tee off at 9 a.m. and Lautensack will start at 9:10 a.m. as the Ladyjacks' final golfer.
