Alexandra Batista Leads Women’s Golf after First Round of Texas State Invitational

Ladyjacks shoot 32-over 316 in the opening round Monday as round two is halted due to a delayed start and evening darkness
KYLE, Texas – Through 18 holes of play Monday at the Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle, Texas, sophomore Alexandra Batista is tied for sixth place on the Texas A&M Invitational leaderboard as the Stephen F. Austin women's golf team is 16th in the standings. The Trophy Club, Texas, native shot a 2-over 73 on the par-71, 6,059-yard course, while the Ladyjacks tallied a 32-over 316 as a team. Monday's second round was cut short due to a delayed start and the evening darkness.
Competing in its first tournament since Oct. 31, 2017, SFA got a 9-over 80 from redshirt junior Jamee Jorgensen (Boerne, Texas) in the first round and a 10-over 81 from redshirt junior Erica Lautensack (Arlington, Texas), the pair tying for 57th and 65th on the leaderboard, respectively. Sophomore Paola Cortes (Allen, Texas) is tied for 76th through the opening round after shooting a 11-over 82, while freshman Alexis Szewczyk (McKinney, Texas) shot a 14-over 85 to stand tied for 86th.
Fellow Southland Conference member Houston Baptist totaled a 10-over 294 through the first 18 holes to lead the 17-team field. Central Arkansas is second in the standings after shooting a 13-over 297 and UTSA, ranked 57th nationally according to Golfstat.com, is third after posting a 16-over 300. Geraldine Wong of Central Arkansas recorded a 2-under 69 in the opening round to sit atop the leaderboard, followed by Houston Baptist's Kaity Cummings and Louisiana-Monroe's Shani White, who both shot an even par.
Most of the Ladyjacks had gotten through hole No. 12 in the second round before play was called Monday evening.
The two-day, 54-hole tournament will resume second-round play tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. with the third and final round to follow.
