Lumberjacks 13th after Day One of Louisville Cardinal Challenge

SIMPSONVILLE, Kentucky – A challenging opening round at the University of Louisville's Cardinal Challenge has left the Stephen F. Austin men's golf team in 13th place following day one of play. The Lumberjacks shot a 20-over 308 on the first 18 holes of play at the University of Louisville Golf Club Friday, sitting three strokes behind 12th-place DePaul.

True freshman Max Kettler (Southlake, Texas), who sits tied for 29th in the 79-player field, leads SFA after the first round where he shot a 2-over 74. Junior Angelo Leyvani (San Antonio, Texas) posted an opening-round score of 4-over 76 and is tied for 42nd, while senior Blake Stock (Hewitt, Texas) and freshman Steven Fabik (Carrollton, Texas) are both tied for 65th place on the leaderboard after tallying a score of 7-over 79. Fellow true freshman Andy Lopez (Dallas, Texas) sits tied for 75th after shooting an 8-over 80 on the par-72, 7,192-yard course.

Miami University (Ohio) leads the 13-team field after posting a team score of 4-under 284, followed by host Louisville in second place with a one-day total of 2-under 286 and Louisiana-Lafayette in third (4-over 292).

Four players are tied for the top spot on the leaderboard as Louisville's Simon Zach and Erik Dulik, an individual competitor, along with Louisiana-Lafayette's Triston Elston and Miami University's Patrick Flavin each claimed a round one score of 4-under 68.

The 'Jacks will tee off tomorrow from hole No. 10 starting at 9:20 a.m. with the last player teeing off at 10 a.m. SFA is paired with individual competitors and will tee off in the order of Lopez, Fabik, Stock, Leyvani and Kettler.
