FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. – Through two days of play at McKendree University's Brunswick Bearcat Open, the Stephen F. Austin bowling team is in third place out of 23 teams after going 4-1 on day two of play Saturday. The Ladyjacks added 4,761 pins to their 9,756 pinfall total and picked up a pair of wins over ranked opponents in the last two matches of the day. Earning the No. 3 seed in Sunday's bracket play, SFA has averaged a 195.1 per game through 10 matches in the tournament.
Competing in five traditional team matches, the Ladyjacks began the day with an 893-789 win over No. 11 Wisconsin-Whitewater. SFA got a 216 from true freshman Sarah Voiers (Chesterton, Ind.) and another 199 from senior Morgan Reising (Lewisville, Texas) to top the Warhawks. Three different bowlers bowled over 200 in the second match as the Ladyjacks claimed a 12-pin 943-931 margin over Maryville University. Freshman Dakota Faichnie (Innisfil, Ontario, Canada) tallied a 202 as Reising bowled a 203 and senior Stephanie Schwartz (Racine, Wis.) knocked down a 202 as well.
The lone blemish in SFA's record in the tournament came in match three when No. McKendree earned a 1,065, compared to 887 by the visitors. Schwartz was the only one able to score a 200 in the match as she recorded a 202, while Reising added a 192. The Ladyjacks rebounded with a 1,010-967 win over third-ranked Arkansas State in a matchup between two Southland Bowling League teams. The match was SFA's highest scoring output of the day as Schwartz (223), senior Kelsi Anderson (San Antonio, Texas) (219) and Voiers (203) each registered games of 200+.
The Ladyjacks finished out the day with another win over a nationally-ranked Southland Bowling League opponent, this time defeating No. 8 Monmouth in convincing fashion (1,028-913). Getting a day-high 233 from Anderson, the Ladyjacks were aided greatly by Schwartz' 223 and sophomore Megan Eaglehouse's (Cibolo, Texas) 196.
After Saturday's play, Schwartz sits 14th among 177 total bowlers with a 203.20 per game average after accumulating 1,016 total pins. Voiers is 22nd with a 194.80 average, while Reising averaged a 191.60 in her five games for 27th place.

A bowling edition of the Battle of the Piney Woods will take place Sunday as SFA will face fifth-ranked and fourth-seeded Sam Houston State in the opening round of bracket play. A total of three matches await the Ladyjacks with the winner of the Ldayjacks' first-round match advancing to play the loser of top-seeded McKendree versus No. 2 seed Nebraska. Two first and second-round wins by SFA would advance the Ladyjacks in the Brunswick Bearcat Open title match.
